Slick Willy makes one of many failures in judgement during his presidency

Back in 2000, Bill Clinton championed China’s entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), touting it as a golden ticket to global prosperity, democracy, and American dominance. He sold it as a win-win: China would open up, play by the rules, and the U.S. would rake in the economic benefits.
Fast forward to 2025; hindsight is a brutal teacher, and Clinton’s rosy predictions look like a masterclass in wishful thinking. Instead of liberalizing, China doubled down on its authoritarian playbook, hollowed out American manufacturing, and turned economic interdependence into a geopolitical weapon. Jobs vanished, supply chains got shackled, and the U.S. woke up to a rival superpower that doesn’t play nice.
Let’s be real: this wasn’t just a misstep, it was a catastrophic faceplant. Clinton handed China the keys to the global economy, and they’ve been joyriding ever since. The evidence is everywhere; shuttered factories, a bloated trade deficit, and a Beijing that laughs at “rules-based order.” History won’t be kind to this one, and neither should we.
