Israel has done the hostages, the Gazans, and its people a disservice. Instead of this prolonged bloody war, they should have turned off the water pipeline to Gaza, The Electricity and Food supply. The standoff would have ended sooner than it started.

Israel, facing the barbaric onslaught from Hamas, made one critical error from the very start: they didn't cut off the lifelines to Gaza on day one.
