Zelensky’s Ceasefire Gambit: More Time, More Money
BruceNews, MA Ed.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is pushing to extend ceasefire talks with Russia beyond the proposed 30-day truce, arguing that a lasting peace demands more time
and international muscle. Initially hashed out in Jeddah with U.S. officials, the ceasefire deal paused fighting and unlocked American aid and intel after a tense Oval Office clash with President Trump.
Now, Zelensky wants four-way talks—Ukraine, the U.S., the EU, and Russia—plus a hefty boost in Western funding for rebuilding. Ukraine’s battlefield losses and economic woes are mounting, with Russia pressing hard near Pokrovsk. Europe is mulling a trillion-dollar aid package, while some X users call Zelensky’s aid pleas “extortion.” Russia hasn’t signed on, and its demands, such as Ukraine ditching NATO aspirations, remain non-starters for Kyiv. Zelensky’s juggling act is clear: keep Ukraine sovereign while begging allies for cash.
This isn’t diplomacy—it’s a desperate play. Russia holds the cards, and Zelensky’s stalling won’t change that. He’s betting on Western guilt to bankroll a war he can’t win, but without Moscow’s buy-in, it’s just noise. Ukraine deserves peace, not a prolonged plea for handouts.
